Hot fun in the Summerfest!

I know I've blogged before about how much I love the Summerfest 5K. It's one of my favorite community races.
I did it this year with my friend Donna. I'd like to say I ran it with Donna, but last week after the Turtle Trot 5K I was visiting my sister's lake house and slipped and fell on some wet pool tile and busted my knee! Ouch!
It has been stiff and sore all week, with a lovely bruise right on the top, so I knew I was not going to run this race. Instead we jogged a little bit and walked a lot. Still, it was a beautiful, mostly shaded course, with some hills thrown in. It wasn't as hot and humid (although it was just enough hot and humid) and some of the races in past years.
And we totally forgot to take a photo of us at the race, so no proof of race this time.
Unlike past years, the Kyle Pease Foundation wasn't there. I was disappointed. These are such inspiring runners. Perhaps they were at another race instead. Hope to see them next year!

Trotting with the turtles

My friend Donna and I ran the inaugural Turtle Trot 5K, sponsored by the Georgia Aquarium June 2.
The 5K, which started and finished near the aquarium in downtown Atlanta, benefited the aquarium's sea turtle program.
And since I have been running like a turtle lately, this was a great race for me!

Here we are before the race. Look how pretty the hydrangeas are!

Finisher's medal
This 5K had very nice finisher's medals at the end. The course was similar to many I have run in the downtown area. The great fun was because I was walking some (if not most!) of the course, I collected quite a bit of found money: 34 cents to be exact! I haven't been blogging about my found money this year, but the piggy is being fed.
Found money pig
He's been getting lots of pennies, some very road weary, but there have been some silver coins thrown in for good measure. We'll see how well I do by the end of the year.
Until then, Turtle On!
